The skies were clear, roads were dry, and we were surrounded by all our friends. the day could not have been any better.
Today the team had the honour of being joined by our friends from Shimano & Louis Garneau as we completed our last kilometers to the finish line.
22 cyclist left and headed southbound on the 115, led by 2 police motorcycles. It was a sight I could only imagine as awesome. We travelled along the 115 to Airport Road and then straight up Brealy Drive to Lansdowne Street.
As the team made the turn onto Kawartha Heights we could hear our Special Friends cheering. After spending some time with our Special Friends and getting their new bikes set up for the ride, we were off to Canadian Tire for the celebration.
There is no sight so spectacular, so emotional, and so amazing as seeing the team ride with our Special Friends for the last couple of kilometers. As we pulled out onto Lansdowne Street traffic came to a stop. Drivers were honking and waving and cheering the kids on.
I know there are other bike rides, and other events that have a large group of cyclist travel along the road, BUT this is different, these kids have all fought cancer, and some are still fighting. Some of these kids such as my very special friend Destiny have not ridden a bicycle in years due to her illness.
So when these kids get up just enough courage to ride their bikes for just a short distance it is truly inspiring. Most of us grumble and complain when the line up at the grocery store is longer than we would like. I think sometimes we have to take a step back and realize that if that is the worst thing that happens in our life, we are getting off a thousand times easier than these kids.
As we rode into Canadian Tire we were greeted by parents, friends, family, & sponsors. The music was courtesy of our friends from Uniform Charlie, a great band made up of police officers from our service. After a short meet and greet it was on to some head shaves and lunch provided by Subway.
Overall I could not be happier with how the day went. It was perfect in so many ways.
We have a few events to complete in May & June, we will take July and Aug off and planning for next year begins again in Sept.
THANKS TO EVERYONE FOR A GREAT TOUR !!!!
