2011 Day 10

We started our day off in Havelock this morning. The weather was pretty nice and the students were out in full force. It's always motivation when I see the kids have taken the time to make posters and signs welcoming the team to their school. As the kids lined up to greet us it was one poster after another.

Lot's of head shaves and pony tail cuts at this school. We definitely packaged up quite a few pony tails to ship off to the Canadian Cancer Society. Lot's and lot's of wigs being
made from those donations !!!! We had a special pony tail donation, our friend Emily was on hand to watch the show, and after seeing all the girls cut their ponies, she decided to get up and donate her hair as well. What makes it so special is Emily was recently diagnosed with cancer and will be starting treatment soon, but before that happens, she wanted to make sure she donated her hair for the cause. Such a great moment, someone who is fighting cancer herself, but takes the time to make sure a child has a wig. Emily, you are truly our hero, we will be beside you in this fight !!!!

Not only did we have the usual head shaves and ice cream eating contest's, but we also watched as a few teachers got slammed with whip cream pies !!! It was awesome !!!

Once we got cleaned up we had a short ride to Campbellford, to visit the big kids at C.D.S.S. there were quite a few head shaves, and we likely could have stayed there all day shaving heads, but the assembly is only so long, so we had to cut it short. We do appreciate the support though.

We have a different activity for the high schools, we have a ice cream eating / tricycle riding relay race. Its comical to watch, high school kids who can dance, demonstrate amazing athleticism, but here you put them on a tricycle and it's a comedy of errors !!!
I have never seen someone fall off a bicycle so much in my life as these kids did as they tried to race each other around the gym.

To make matters worse they also had to eat a cup of ice cream every time they did a lap. Great times at C.D.S.S and at the end of the assembly the student council presented Pedal For hope with a cheque for over $4000, which means someone has to dye their entire body blue !!! Good luck on that. HaHa.

From C.D.S.S big kids to the younger kids at Hillcrest Public School. As we rode up to the school the kids were running out to meet us, and after 3 or 4 laps around the parking lot, I
managed to get high fives from pretty much every student. Lot's of head shaves at this school and lot's of hair on the floor !!!

Hillcrest might be a small school, but their enthusiasm and dedication rivals any school on the tour. It was awesome to be back in Campbellford !!!!

Tomorrow were off to Warkworth, Stockdale and Brighton. Lot's of kilometers !!!
