City of Kawartha Lakes

Well the last day of the first week and the team is looking strong. After breakfast at Subway we were out on the highway to Cameron. After a quick 17 km ride we pulled into Fenelon Township Public School.

The hair was quickly hitting the floor, especially for this young girl who not only cut her pony to make a wig, she shaved her head for her Papa. A sacrifice that no guy could ever imagine.

After the show we were quickly back on the bikes and another 18 km's to Fenelon Falls to visit Langton Public School. This was an extra extra special trip because we had our Special Friend Eli riding into the school with us, and we had another Special Friend, Julie riding in the R.C.M.P cruiser leading us, sirens and lights blazing !!!! Julie is still currently in treatment but managed to get a pass from the hospital to come spend the afternoon with us.

The enthusiasm at Langton was thru the roof, Ms. Steele and her crew know how to throw a party. It was amazing, starting the night before in a couple of tents and a heater!!

When it came to head shaves, there has never ever been a head shave so emotional
than Julie's friend, Julia shaving her head to support Julie. The party temporarily came to a halt so we could embrace the moment. If the head shave was not touching enough, to have Julie get up on stage and remove her hat for one of the first times at her school. There were very few dry eyes in the house !!!

I know I have typed it more than once already this week, but I am going to type it again. Kids like Juile are true heroes, plain and simple. These kids are experiencing more in their early life than most of us will ever have to go thru in a lifetime.

No hill, no weather, and no pain will ever compare to what these children are dealing with. Because of that, we will never complain !!

Thanks to Ms. Steele for doing an awesome job and thanks to my good friend Mrs. McNamee for reminding me to get this blog done !!

Our last stop of the day was 20 km's down the road, Bobcaygeon Public School. As we pulled into the school the kids were just running out to greet us. Once again we spotted two of our Special Friends who inspire us to keep cycling, Ben & Vicky.

When we got down to the head shaves, Vicky quickly jumped up to shave team member Gary's head. I think she likes it just a little too much.

After this school the team cycled to Kinmount. Monday brings another tough day as we get ready to visit Dawson's school.
