Heading For Home !!

This morning we started out in Port Hope at St Anthony's school where we received a warm welcome. We did 11 head shaves and 2 pony tail cuts, including a mother who had not had her hair cut for 9 years and she donated her long locks of hair. Mrs Ross a grade 4 teacher shaved her head for the cause as well, it is always special when a woman shaves her head showing support and empathy for those battling cancer.

During our Pedal for Hope Olympics we had Naomi competing who was also celebrating her 10th birthday, she received a silver medal and a special birthday song. St Anthony's did an awesome job fundraising along with the help of the Amanda Linker Memorial Scholarship fund matching their donation with a cheque for $1200.00. After St Anthony's the team biked 3okms to Plainville Public School. We had a broken bicycle chain along the way which slowed us down, by no means will our own mechanical team make it to the Nascar pits, 10 minutes trying to fix the chain with no luck so we had to bring out a spare bike.

Plainville school, it certainly does not live up to its name of being on the "plains", there were a lot of hills, we have renamed this school Hillville. The riders had a real tough ride with all of the steep inclines and the strong westerly winds. As we crested the last hill to the school the kids were all outside greeting us. This was the kick off assembly for this school, 3 girls cut their pony tails. We will return at a later date to see how their fundraising campaign went. We left Plainville and headed for South Monaghan Public school in Bailieboro, another challenging ride up the hills into the wind.

At South Monaghan Public School we were greeted at the highway all the way up to the school by the kids lining the parking lot to the school. We had 8 head shaves and lots of hair dyes, including the principal Ms. Marris who had her hair dyed by a couple of students. With the hair dye some silly string was purchased by mistake, but we had lots of fun with that. The school did an excellent of job fundraising, all of the participants are being treated to a pizza lunch from Donna's Pizza in Millbrook.

Tomorrow is the last day, starting off at James Strath School and visiting Millbrook Public School and North Cavan School.
