Heading East !!

Today is our 9th day of riding on the tour. The weather has been awesome, the best weather we have seen in 6 years. The day started off easy for us because we had to make a stop at Edmison Heights Public School before heading out east.

At 9:05am (first time we have been on time since the tour started), we rolled onto Royal Drive and into a group of super enthusiastic 'Eddie Heights' kids cheering and yelling as they lined up in the driveway of their school anxiously awaiting high fives from the team. Two of our Special Friends were also waiting for us, Millicent & Liam. Like I have said before, we are not the heroes, our Special Friends are the heroes and it is always awesome when we ride into the schools and see happy healthy kids waiting for us.

Once we squeezed everyone we could possibly fit into the gym we had a total of 25 students who either shaved their heads or cut their pony tails. It was an awesome time and the students had an exciting time. Campbell Deck, Emma Zomer, Eleana Norton all won prizes for being the top fundraisers, Great Job !!!, and who can forget the Pedal For Hope fan club wearing the yellow T-shirts. I think I heard that they are planning to cut their pony tails next year when we come to their school. Great Job Girls !!!!!!

At the end of the day Edmison Heights raised over $7,000.00 for us in the memory of Joyce Harley.

From there it was 36km's to Hastings, and we didn't have much time to get there. After my little mishap yesterday I wasn't feeling 100%, so for me it was back in the truck so the team could get to the school on time. Year after year the students of Hastings Public School line up along County Road 2 to greet us. This year the students got a surprise when they seen themselves from last year on this years video.

No head shaves or pony tails cut but I must say as I walked into the gymnasium, it was by far the loudest group of students we have heard on the tour so far.

From Hastings it was off to Norwood Public School to see Mr. Cho and all the students. As we got close to the school we had a little road construction to detour around but we managed to get to the school off roading style. We pulled in to the school and the students were lined up to greet us, well almost all of us. Dave had bike problems a few blocks away, when he got the bike rolling again the team was gone, the team turned right and Dave turned left, but he managed to re-join the team after a trip up to the high school, unfortunately the rest of the team were at Norwood Public School at the time. !!!

Lots of head shaves and hair dyes at this school. The girls swept the ice cream eating competition taking all three spots on the podium. And as for Frederico, well his cousin Fernado took his place in Norwood and still couldn't make it to the podium. Let's face it, he barely made it out of the tube !!!!

The day ended with a short ride to Havelock to set up for tomorrow.
