Kicking Off Week 2 With More Hills !!!

After 1 day off we were back on our bikes Sunday afternoon riding from Burleigh Falls to Apsley. Not a bad 30km ride but unfortunately again it was in the rain and the wind. Which as all cyclist knows, creates challenges. We had a good ride and logged in some kilometers that we will need later in the tour. Sometimes between schools we have too many kilometers to ride so we ride those kilometers when we get spare time during the tour. That way we never miss riding a single kilometer of the tour and we are able to visit all the schools.

On Monday we started out back in Haliburton at the home of the Red Hawks. We had a great show and in the process got the opportunity to spend time with our special buddy Dawson.

From Haliburton we made a right turn heading out of town and right into the incline of Dover Hill. A 1.9 kilometer climb at an 8% grade. I really can't explain all the technical road jargon, lets just say "it was steep and long". Once we put that hill behind us it was on to Wilberforce E.S, but first we had the infamous Vinegar Hill between us and the school. Now this hill is only 1km long but it has a 14% grade, now again the only thing I need to say is look at the picture below the blog and you will get an idea of what I am talking about. For most it was a small challenge, for me at 235 pounds, it was a huge accomplishment.

Once we arrived at Wiberforce E.S we shaved, danced, and ate ice cream. Two students mom's shaved their heads and the school presented us with a cheque for $2,300. Awesome job team !!

We finished our day in Cardiff, another school with less than 50 students, but when they lined up in the parking lot yelling and screaming, you would think there was 200 students.

Tomorrow we begin our day heading to Apsley.
