2011 Day 9

Today we started in Norwood where we rolled into Norwood District P.S at 9am. The kids were lined up as we arrived and we could hear them cheering even over the sound of the police sirens.

It was a great atmosphere in the gym and the show was a huge hit. We shaved some heads and cut a few ponies and at the end of the assembly the students presented Pedal For Hope with a cheque for over $2700.00. Awesome work team !!!

The highlite of the morning was seeing four boys stand up in the gym, raise up their t-shirts and reveal the letters to spell out 'Cops' when they stood side by side. Now that's enthusiasm !!!! Great work boys, that was a first for our 7 years on tour.

Our next stop was a very short ride across town to St. Pauls Catholic School where we witnessed
one of the most dramatic transformations we have ever seen on tour. Mr Sawada shaved his head and his beard and looked like a totally different person when he was done. I'm sure his wife appre
ciated and supported his efforts, but just the same, I'm sure she
loved the new man with no hair.

Our ice cream eating contest was exciting and I was glad to see that we had a dancing superstar amongst the group. For one girl, who was entertaining me with her dance moves, she also proved she could eat ice cream just as good as anybody else in the room. Great job !!

Our final stop of the day was about 30km's away in Hastings. It was different this year because due to a scheduling change, we actually rode in from the opposite direction, so we didn't have to climb the hill right in front of the school. What a great change !!!

We arrived at the school as the kids were out on break, so we got to ride right down the path and into the school playground, it was cool.

Once inside we watched as student after student lined up with a piece of duct tape in their hands, waiting to tape Mrs. Bryson to the wall. It was great to see, and the duct tape held pretty good, even while she was trying to dance to the music.

Once the head shaving began we watched as Madam Anderson cut her pony tail. There was enough hair out of that one to make a few wigs !!! Good job Amber, it will make you even faster and lighter on
the horses now.

Once we finished up in Hastings it was back to Havelock for tomorrows schools.
