Cardiff to Apsley

This morning we picked up right where we left off last night, in Cardiff. Unfortunately the weather wasn't the way we left it last night. This morning we woke up to a very chilly 3 degrees, so that meant the winter gear came out of the gym bags quickly. Thermal under clothing, boot covers and winter gloves were quickly put on before riding into Cardiff Public School.

The ride might not have been so cold if we didn't spend extra time traveling down a residential road to a dead end. Once ' Wrong Way Ricky ', our lead vehicle driver from the R.C.M.P figured out where we were, we managed to roll into the school fashionably late.

The students were excited to see us and although they were the smallest group of students we will visit on this tour they were loud and did a great job fundraising. Congrats to their top fundraiser, Chantelle for doing an
awesome job !!!!

Our second stop was in Apsley, which is about 33 km's south. The good thing for us was it may have been cold out, but the wind was strong at our backs for a change. For those who are not familiar with road cycling, when you have the wind blowing directly at you it' a rough ride. Picture a big guy like me fighting thru the wind, it's like holding up a sheet of plywood in front of you, very hard to cycle. But.......when the wind is at your back, well the fun begins. Speeds increase so much when the wind helps you along. Today we were cruising at 40-50 km's per hour and it was barely work. The team made it from Cardiff to Apsley in just over an hour which was awesome.

After a quick bite to eat it was into the new Apsley Public School where we always enjoy visiting Donna and her students. We started off the show with a few head shaves and some pony tails were cut off as well. Special congrats to Emerald for not only donating her pony for a wig but also shaved her head to support the cause.

Apsley was our 22nd school of the tour and we still haven't seen our Olympic Champion, Frederico take the podium. The kids are just too fast and too quick to eat the ice cream.

After Apsley we still needed to ride to Buckhorn to set us up for tomorrows presentation. So on to the bikes and 45 km's later we rolled into Buckhorn.
