Half Way Done !!!

Well today has started off with great weather and another funny story to share. I learned today that if you put 2 riders on bikes in a small parking lot, trying to ride around to get their legs warmed up, eventually they are bound to run into each other. That's exactly what happened this morning when Lindsey and I crashed into each other. Now I know what your thinking, poor Lindsey as big Townzy crashed into her. Not a chance..........after the crash Lindsay stayed on her bike laughing the entire time as I went crashing into a building and down to the ground !!!!!

Once we arrived at Buckhorn Public School it was like a celebrity welcome. The kids were lined up in the hall greeting us with high fives and hand shakes. After the video we started off our head shaves with a special guest, Mr. Pat Marren, the Chair of Relay For Life in Peterborough. I had the honour of shaving Pat's head for the cause. Pat has done an outstanding job with Relay For Life and between our two teams we raised over half a million dollars last year for the Canadian Cancer Society. Thanks to Kim for helping us arrange the celebrity shave.

Many head shaves and a few pony tails were cut today in Buckhorn including our tour truck driver, Constable McEwen also shaved his head.

In the Ice Cream competition the girls showed the boys how to do it. All three medals were won by the girls team, way to go girls !!!!!!

Jacob, Tucker, Maire, Cooper, Braden, Riley, and Hailey all won prizes for their fundraising efforts.

From Buckhorn we were off to Curve Lake Public School to visit with the kids. The ride was great until the last kilometer or so when we had a 3 bike pile up. At 40 km's per hour there is nothing scarier than a bike crash, especially when there are 11 bikes only inches from each other. On this occasion one little mistake caused 3 riders, including me to hit the road and tumble for awhile. Aside from some road rash and a few damaged bike parts, the team was up and riding again in no time. The one thing that protects us every time there is a crash is our helmet, today it was me who was thankful that I was wearing one, because the impact on the road caused it to split in half. Kids always always wear your bike helmets, it will save you every time.

Once we arrived to Curve Lake the kids were lined up outside waving hand made flags they had designed and decorated themselves. It was awesome !!!!!

One of the special head shaves was none other than Curve Lake Constable Brad Filman, long time team member on the Pedal For Hope team and one the first officers to bring Cops For Cancer to the Peterborough area. We also watched as a few parents had their pony tails cut and a few heads shaved for the cause, and of course who could forget the tiny grade 1 & 2 kids who lined up to have their head shaved.

After Curve Lake the team rode into Lakefield to visit Ridpath Public School. The kids were lined up on the street and although due to a damaged bike, I had to ride in the team van, the sight of all the kids cheering gave me chills. It was awesome to see.

This was Ridpaths fundraising kickoff assembly so we didn't shave heads or cut pony tails but we will return in June to see how they make out. As for the show, well it was a sight to see and each time I watch it I laugh just as hard as the first time. I don't think you will see any of our team members in the movies or on a broadway stage, but they do try hard and they definately make the kids laugh.

Special guest appearance at the school today was Mr. Larry Taylor from the Lakefield Lions Club. Each year Larry and his team of Lions club members join up with Ian and Ross Bledsoe of IGA and host a BBQ lunch. This year it is being held on Saturday in Lakefield and the team will be riding in at 12pm. Activities include a bouncey castle for the kids, BBQ, and the Honda Civic police cruiser will be on hand for video game players.

Hope to see you there !!!!!
