2011 Day 4

It was so nice leaving the house today and actually looking up in the sky to see the sun shining. We needed to have some good weather because today was going to be the first real day of riding. As we left Peterborough, it was smooth riding all the way to Bridgenorth for our first stop at Chemong Public School.

It was another great assembly that Chemong Public School has become know for. Deb and her crew do an amazing job every year to support Pedal For Hope and the friends in our community fighting cancer. As we rolled in, we were greeted with cheers, waves, and clapping by all the students.

Once inside we got right down to business shaving or cutting pony tails of 35 participants including Deb. We always like to give a special mention to any girls who shave their head for the cause, and at Chemong it included Heather, Emily and Lily.

For one grade 8 student, this was her 4th time shaving her head to support the cause. What makes this year different is this is her graduation year and she still decided to shave it. That's an example of what our video is all about, ordinary students doing extraordinary things, and Emily displayed that today. Good luck in high school next year, we hope you will continue
your awesome leadership qualities, you can always lead by example.

After the head shaves it was Mrs. Bailey's turn to take the spotlight, but not for a head shave, she was the landing zone for 3 whip cream pies in the face. She was a champ as she sat their as each student came up and launched a whip cream pie at her face.

Our next stop of the day was in Omemee, where we visited Scott Young Public School. I love visiting this school because the students are so energized when we arrive. The form up in their respective house league teams and cheer for us like it's a rock concert. As I rode around the track I was greeted by the Gryphons, Mustangs, Golden Hawks and the Ravens. It was organized chaos in the gym as our Morphamaniacs competed with the house league teams in a tricycle / ice cream relay race. The Ravens ended up taking first place and the gold medal.

We will be back to Scott Young after they finish their fundraising campaign. We look forward to seeing how they do.

Our third and final stop of the day was in Lindsay at Leslie Frost Public School. It was a very fast trip to Lindsay, Highway 7 is flat and fast, at times I was looking down at my speedometer and my bike was travelling at 57km/hr, and that's with my legs powering it, not a motor !!! It was awesome. Special thanks to the City of Kawartha Lakes Police Service and the City of Kawartha Lakes O.P.P for escorting us along the way and ensuring we stay safe on the road.

When we arrived at Leslie Frost we thought to ourselves, "the kids aren't out, we don't see them". Just than, we pulled in their driveway and all we could see was a sea of kids lined up at the back of the school, and of course in that sea, was of course our Special Friend, Tessa.

It was great, nothing makes us more proud than to hear the students screaming and cheering as they stretch out their hands to high five the team members. I actually had one little girl give me the fist pound explosion and than she said, "I'm never washing my hand again". Too funny !!! We're just police officers little lady, you can wash your hand. HaHa.

Once inside it was our usual mayhem as the Morphamaniacs were up to their usual hijinks. After all the clowning around settled we experienced something we have never experienced before. There were 2 head shaves and 2 pony tail cuts at the school and for the first time in 6 years, they were all girls !!!!!!

Awesome job !!!! Elizabeth, Evelyn, Sarah, and Aoife. Your act of kindness and selflessness will be remembered by the team for years to come.

After Leslie Frost the team wasn't done riding. School might have been finished but we still had to ride to Bobcaygeon so we could be ready to visit Bobcaygeon Public School in the morning. The weather wasn't as nice as we experienced going to Lindsay. It was extremely windy and very tough to ride. One minute you are travelling at 40km/hr and than all of a sudden you round a bend and the wind hits you hard. Next thing you know your travelling at 19km/hr right into the wind. It's like riding a bicycle with a parachute on the back. Not much fun, but we got the job done, and at the end of the day we travelled 90 km's.
