2011 Lakefield BBQ

If we were going to be blessed with nice weather during the tour, today was the second most important day for that to happen. Aside from our final ride into Peterborough with our 'Special Friends', the Lakefield Lions Community BBQ depends on sunshine, and today we received it.

We left Wilberforce around 8:30 and had 90km's of riding ahead of us. The weather was nice and the team was in good spirits as we rolled down the highway. At 10am we arrived in Apsley which was the half way point of the ride. It was a great day to get some video footage of the team for next years video, and our submission to CBC's 'One Day' contest. We met up with Mike Melnik and his co-op student, NcLovin so they could work the cameras and capture the team in fine form.

We arrived in Lakefield just after noon and the smell of the BBQ was awesome. The Lakefield Lions were serving up lunch and it was great. We really appreciate what Larry Taylor and all the Lions do for us, year after year they man the BBQ for us. Thanks to Ian and Ross who provide all the food for us courtesy of Foodland.

A couple of highlites for the day was getting to meet one of our newest 'Special Friends', Boden and his family. Great little guy, little shy, but he will come around. The other highlite was watching as NcLovin had his head shaved for the cause. It was kind of funny when I was getting the hair clippers ready, he came over and asked what number I was using..........Number ?? I quickly educated him that we were shaving his head, not styling it !!!! You could almost see the blood rush out of his head as he turned somewhat white in fear. He did go thru with it as a small crowd of family and friends cheered him on.

After a couple of hours of socializing, the team packed up and headed home to relax for Monday.
